Steve Bruce makes clear claim about his position at West Brom
West Brom manager Steve Bruce has insisted that he wants to remain as the club’s manager for next season.
Bruce was appointed as Baggies boss at the start of February, taking charge at The Hawthorns following the sacking of Valerien Ismael.
The 61-year-old signed an 18-month contract with West Brom, securing his future at the club until the end of next season.
However, Bruce has so far been unable to get much of a tune out of his West Brom side, winning just two of his ten games since his appointment at the club.
The latest setback, a thoroughly underwhelming 1-0 defeat away to local rivals Birmingham on Sunday afternoon, has left West Brom 12th in the Championship table, eight points adrift of the play-off places.
But despite that, it seems Bruce is still very much intent on being in the dugout at The Hawthorns next season.
Speaking about his time at West Brom so far in the wake of that defeat to Birmingham, Bruce told the Express and Star: “I’ve really really enjoyed it. There is a bit of work to be done, but I’ve really enjoyed the seven or eight weeks. As far as I’m concerned, I’d love to stay.”
Bruce will be looking to get his side back on track on Wednesday night, when they host second-place Bournemouth at The Hawthorns.
The Verdict
This feels like a somewhat surprising admission from Bruce in all honesty.
Given the fact that things have yet to really get going for West Brom under Bruce, with just those two wins in charge of the club so far, you might not have thought this would have been particularly enjoyable for Bruce.
However, you can understand why he may be keen to stay on and put things right next season regardless, given that promotion with the Baggies could now be his best chance of getting back to the
