Steve Bruce explains his plan for £8m West Brom misfit Kenneth Zohore

Steve Bruce plans to take a closer look at Kenneth Zohore in pre-season after being impressed by the West Bromwich Albion striker’s work ethic.

Zohore flew out to Portugal for a training camp with a number of Albion players in a bid to improve his fitness before the squad reported for pre-season on Thursday. The striker ended last season injured having last featured for the club in August.

The Dane joined Albion from Cardiff City for a potential £8million in 2019, but he’s only played 23 games in three years. Zohore wasn’t able to convince Bruce’s predecessors Slaven Bilic, Sam Allardyce or Valerien Ismael that he was worthy of leading the line for Albion.

Fit-again Daryl Dike is expected to do that this season, but Zohore seems intent on turning his Albion career around. Zohore, 28, will return to Portugal for Bruce’s pre-season training camp on Sunday. The slate has been wiped clean.

"I’ve just seen Zohore work tirelessly all summer,” said Bruce. “For me he’s a new player. I know he hasn’t had the best of times here, but he’s here so can we get the best out of him?

“I know he’s had a disappointing time here, I think that’s fair to say, you only have to look at his record and how many games he’s played. But he’s worked hard over the summer, and I’ve just seen him work there today, and it might just be. You never know. It’s on the big boy and he’s trying, let’s see what we can get out of him.”
