Steve Bruce delivers Daryl Dike update following West Brom’s defeat to Sheffield United

West Bromwich Albion manager Steve Bruce has revealed that Daryl Dike is making good progress in his road to recovery from injury.

The United States international sustained a hamstring injury during the Baggies’ clash with Peterborough United last month.

Whilst West Brom went on to secure a 3-0 victory over Posh after suffering this blow, they have struggled in the absence of Dike in recent weeks.

The Baggies opted to draft in Bruce as Valerien Ismael’s replacement earlier this month following back-to-back defeats at the hands of Preston North End and Millwall.

Whilst Bruce would have been hoping to guide his side to victory in their meeting with Sheffield United last night, Paul Heckingbottom’s side sealed all three points at Bramall Lane thanks to a brace from Billy Sharp.

West Brom were unable to get back into the game after Jake Livermore was dismissed by referee Leigh Doughty for a challenge on Conor Hourihane.

Following his side’s 2-0 defeat to the Blades, Bruce shared an update on Dike.

Speaking to the Birmingham Mail about the forward, the West Brom boss said: “I have seen him in the gym and one leg is bigger than me!

“He is a big powerful boy for 21.

“It’s quite remarkable. 

“It’s unfortunate isn’t it?

“You spend a lot of money on a centre forward who fits the criteria of what you want and unfortunately he gets injured.

“That’s football unfortunately.

“It’s a shame, but he is making progress.

“He has got a hamstring issue, but hopefully in a few weeks’ time we’ll see him back.”

The Verdict

This is a relatively encouraging update as Dike is seemingly on track to play a role in the run-in for West Brom.
