Stephen Robinson still pals with St Mirren's public enemy number one as boss all smiles amid Paisley 'pantomime'

Stephen Robinson hailed St Mirren's perfect Premiership start and also claimed he's still best buddies with Paisley's public enemy number one Trevor Carson.

The Saints boss shared a warm pre-match hug with a player who was booed by the locals with every touch of the ball as an own goal from another old Buddy Joe Shaughnessy and Mikael Mandron's strike sealed the points as keeper Zach Hemming also saved Zach Robinson's penalty before Josh Mulligan pulled a goal back.

Carson made his move to the Dark Blues after a close-season behind the scenes spat which saw him head to Tayside despite signing a contract extension with St Mirren back in March until the summer of 2025. But Robinson is adamant their relationship remains strong even if the fans weren't so complimentary. He said: "Football is pantomime. Some of the things that get shouted at me, I think surely they don't mean that. Maybe they do!

"As I say, I've had a brilliant relationship with Trevor for a long, long time. I class Trevor as a friend and I wish him nothing but success. Dundee have got a very good goalkeeper there.

“I also only realised it was Joe that scored the own-goal but listen, Joe was excellent for me in the year we were here together.

"He was a very good servant to the football club before that so I have nothing but best wishes for him and Trevor. Result-wise very good. First half was really good, we went two nil up and should have been more.

"The lesson from the last two games is when we do go two up just to handle the ball a little bit more and show more composure in managing the game. It became a little frantic, in saying that we still created chances including one that was cleared off the line which I was told could have been over.
