Stephen Robinson named St Mirren manager on two-and-a-half year deal as Buddies splash the cash

Stephen Robinson has been confirmed as the new manager of St Mirren after the Buddies struck a six-figure compensation package with Morecambe.

The former Motherwell boss has sealed a return to Scottish football on a two-and-a-half year deal, 14 months after leaving Fir Park and becomes the club's highest paid manager in their history.

He is now set to take the side against Dundee on Wednesday after agreeing to succeed Jim Goodwin in Paisley.

He told the St Mirren website: "It's an absolute honour that St Mirren have come in and were willing to pay the compensation.

"It came out of the blue and when I spoke to the guys at the club it really impressed me what they are trying to do.
