Stephen Robinson in St Mirren fan bust up as Buddies No 2 hints at what sparked shouting match
St Mirren boss was embroiled in an angry verbal bust-up with travelling supporters after his side slipped to a 1-0 defeat at Livingston.
The Paisley boss had to be pulled away by Buddies defender Alex Gogic as tempers flared after the full-time whistle as his players applauded their fans. Robinson never appeared for the post match press conference - with his number two Diarmuid O’Carroll taking on the responsibility.
And O’Carroll hinted at the spat being sparked by a comment over his side’s heart. Despite the defeat to David Martindale's men, Saints are still sitting pretty in fifth and fighting for a Euro spot. O’Carroll said: “People are passionate about the game, there’s passion from our side. From a fans perspective, you come, you pay your money and you obviously want your team to win. From our side of things, we can’t ask for much more. I think it was 64% possession and 20 odd shots at goal.
“To question anyone’s heart is always something that is going to rub up people the wrong way. In fairness to the boys, they were right at it from minute one and I think on any other day we win that game based on chances.
“We as a collective always go over (to the fans) whether we win, lose or draw. People pay their money and they can say what they want - but from our point of view we can’t ask for much more of them.
“Anyone with a calm head can see and understand that on another day we probably should win that game. We put it to bed, we move on, it’s not a big issue for us and we kick on for next week.
“I think anyone at the club would take the position that we are in. For St Mirren to be fifth in this time in the league is fantastic and from our perspective nothing changes.
