Stephen Kenny expecting great game as Ireland take on Scotland at historic Hampden Park

Stephen Kenny is expecting a great game and a fantastic occasion as Ireland take on Scotland at the historic Hampden Park.

The Republic of Ireland travel to Glasgow for Saturday's showdown with the Scots as this year’s UEFA Nations League draws to a close over the next seven days.

Ireland finish their campaign at home to Armenia on Tuesday, but first face Steve Clarke’s side, who will still be hurting from the 3-0 hammering that they were subjected to in Dublin during the summer.

On that occasion, Michael Obafemi lit up the stage with a world class strike to secure the win for Ireland, and the manager is expecting something similar in the rematch between the two Celtic nations.

Despite the result, Kenny believes that the Scots are still an exciting prospect, most notably at home; a side that boasts many Premier League players in their squad for Saturday.

"We want to finish [the campaign] strong," said Kenny, speaking at Tuesday’s press conference.

"It is a big game. A great game. Ireland against Scotland in the Nations League, in Hampden Park, a famous venue, we’re delighted to be going there.

"Scotland qualified for the European championships previously, a lot of their players are playing in the high end of the Premier League."

While Kenny was full of admiration for the Scottish squad, he was quick to remind that his own team are starting to show their potential, having competed well with big-name teams over the past 12 months, including Portugal, Belgium, Serbia and Ukraine, before it all came together for the win over Scotland.

"They are a very strong team and we are looking forward to playing against them," said Kenny.
