Stefano Domenicali has backed Lewis Hamilton to challenge for an 8th F1 title in 2022

Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali has backed Lewis Hamilton to be challenging for an 8th world title in 2022, with the Mercedes man now looking set to stay in the sport.

Hamilton entered a period of social media silence after the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in December, with the Briton sparking rumours of a potential exit from the sport ahead of the 2022 season.

Such fears appear to have been allayed now, though, and it instead looks as though he will be back on the grid and looking to challenge yet again for that record-breaking 8th world championship.

Undoubtedly, it is going to be fascinating to watch him go for another championship, especially with the new technical regulations coming into play, and it would appear that F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali is just as excited as supporters to see the Mercedes man return:

“For what I know and for what I see, I saw the last picture of Lewis with the right positivity in his face, in his gesture and I think that is important because Lewis is an incredible asset, not only for our sport but for the world,” he told Sky.

“And Lewis has in front of him a possibility to be – for the eighth time – a world champion, so I’m pretty sure that he’s totally focused on this objective because this year there will be so many new things, so many new variables and that will allow this championship to be so attractive.

“And going back once again to Lewis, I’m sure that he’s totally dedicated to make sure that he can really have his chance to be, for the eighth time, a world champion.”
