Star running back AJ Ouellette re-signed for 1-year extension with Roughriders
Saskatchewan Roughriders running back AJ Ouellette is returning to the Queen City for at least another season.
The Riders have re-signed the Ohio-born ground game asset with a one-year contract extension, just nine days before he would have been set for free agency.
With seven years of CFL experience, Ouellette was a huge influence on the Roughrider’s regular season last year, leading the team in touchdowns with nine.
He also covered 1,222 rushing yards, the second highest total league-wide.
The fan-chosen 2025 Wireless Age Player of the Year also contributed heavily to the Grey Cup Championship game, making 17 carries for 83 yards and a touchdown.
He was first picked up by the team as a free agent in February of 2024, prior to which he spent four seasons with the Toronto Argonauts, along with some brief time in the NFL.
In his first season with the Riders, he was plagued by a hip injury that limited him to only eight games.
Over the course of his 62 career regular-season games, Ouellette has made 700 rushes for 3,562 yards, reaching an average of 5.1 yards per carry, picking up 21 touchdowns along the way. He also has five passing touchdowns, making 110 catches for 949 yards.
