St Johnstone kid provides Albion Rovers with boost as boss welcomes much-needed striker

Albion Rovers have signed St Johnstone kid Adam McMillan on loan and boss Sandy Clark says his arrival is much needed to boost their forward options.

The 18-year-old is keen for first-team football after playing for Saints’ reserves last term and made his debut off the bench in last midweek’s SPFL Trust Trophy win over Hibs B, where Rovers drew 3-3 and won 4-2 on penalties. McMillan also made his league debut during Saturday’s 1-1 draw at home to Caledonian Braves, playing the final 20 minutes.

Rovers aren’t blessed with a host of striking options as things stand and Clark is delighted to get the youngster in. He said: “Adam is a young player who can play off the side or play as a striker. We are a wee bit short in that area so hopefully he can come in, push to get in the team and make an impact.

“He is a good footballer, a good finisher and I have enjoyed watching him and working with him in training so, hopefully, he will get an opportunity for minutes on the pitch.

“It is initially until January but hopefully he does well for us and we may look to extend that.”

Rovers have also confirmed the signing of midfielder Murray MacKintosh, who came through the Kilmarnock Academy and most recently played for Highland League side Brechin City.

Meanwhile, Albion Rovers suffered a setback in the Lowland League last night as they lost 3-0 at home to Broxburn Athletic, which followed a last-gasp leveller from Callum Home to draw 1-1 with Caledonian Braves on Saturday.

On Saturday's draw, Clark said: “We deserved to get a point out of the game. We played really well in the first half and totally dominated. We should have been ahead at half-time but we weren’t. Caley Braves were a lot better in the second half and got a good goal
