St Cuthbert Wanderers boss criticises frantic end-of-season schedule

St Cuthbert Wanderers boss Jordan Williamson has criticised his side’s frantic end-of-season schedule.

Saints are due to face Threave Rovers in the League Cup final tomorrow night with the Potts Cup final against the same side coming on Tuesday evening.

That comes on the back of a busy week for Saints as they lost to Darvel in the promotion play-offs on Wednesday just days after being on the end of a heavy defeat from Tranent.

Williamson said: “It’s disappointing we’ve not been helped. There are fixtures that were in March that could have been played before now.

“It should have come as no surprise it was going to be us or Threave that would win the league and I think we could have had some sort of assistance in trying to get our games played earlier to give us some free dates.

“To go into these play-offs with no training or a proper build-up has been sad, especially as you’re representing the league, not just St Cuthbert Wanderers. We’ve not had a full Monday and Wednesday training then Saturday game since the second week of March.

“You’re always going to have extra games at this time of the season with postponements and cup matches but for us to have played our seventh game of May on only the 22nd day just shows we’re never going to be able to reach the heights we did when we could properly manage ourselves.

“Our motivation is to play these two play-off games and use that to fuel the fire to give us that extra 10 per cent to finish on a high, to use the experience, learn from it, perhaps implement things we have seen to use for ourselves and put the disappointment behind us.

“We’re not at the levels of Tranent or Darvel but neither are Threave.
