Spurs officials spotted in Europe eyeing rising star with 'great future' who rejected Liverpool

Tottenham sent officials to watch Porto take on Sporting CP in a fiery Primeira Liga contest on Friday night, with the Portuguese press revealing they may have their eyes on a former Liverpool target.

Tottenham fans know all too well about their widely reported but failed pursuit of Luis Diaz, with the player’s father recently revealing that the Lilywhites ‘hesitated’, allowing Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool to swoop in.

Diaz has started well in the Premier League, with Klopp hailing his debut in midweek against Leicester as ‘one of the best I ever saw’.

Fabio Paratici and Daniel Levy eventually settled on two signings from Paratici’s former club, with Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski joining at the end of the month, but it seems the Tottenham chiefs could now be plotting some revenge on Liverpool.

According to O Jogo (via Sport Witness), Tottenham scouts were in attendance on Friday as Porto drew 2-2 in a crazy encounter with Sporting, which saw five red cards, four of which came in stoppage time.

While the report doesn’t detail exactly what the Spurs officials were doing there, it does name-check an interesting possible target in the shape of Porto playmaker Fabio Vieira.

As per another Portuguese outlet, Record, the 21 year-old rejected a move to Liverpool in last summer’s transfer window.

It’s not hard to see why Sport Witness claim the young midfielder ‘stood out’ in Friday’s match, as he scored one of his side’s goals and assisted the other.

Whoscored list Vieira as ‘very strong’ at through balls, key passes and set pieces, and that was on full display as he racked up two key passes and nine crosses, while also completing seven of ten long ball attempts, the most in his team.
