Spurs latest news: Hugo Lloris' new contract was 'important' for Tottenham
Michael Bridge believes that convincing Hugo Lloris to sign a new contract was one of Tottenham‘s top priorities this season.
The Frenchman’s deal was set to expire this summer before he put pen two paper and extended his stay at Spurs by another two years.
Lloris’ form has dipped since he signed a new contract, but the 35-year-old has been an incredible servant for Tottenham over the best part of 10 years.
He was arguably at fault for both of Wolves’ goals in the defeat earlier this month before dropping a clanger which allowed Ilkay Gundogan to equalise in the dramatic win at Manchester City, but he did make up for his mistake by pulling off a miraculous second half save from the German midfielder.
Regardless, he did recently pass 400 appearances for the club and has only highlighted his importance with a string of fine displays this season. Even when some of his teammates were struggling earlier in the campaign, Lloris was continuously one of their better performers.
As a result, only five other sides have kept more clean sheets than Spurs this season, the top-three, Arsenal and Wolves.
Therefore, Bridge believes that convincing Lloris to stay at the club was extremely important.
He told GIVEMESPORT: “I was saying for weeks that tying him up was one of the most important things the club should be doing.”
