Sprinter Luxolo Adams sets second-fastest ever 200m SA time in blitz to Paris title

Sprinter Luxolo Adams demolished the field to claim his first World Athletics Diamond League meeting 200m title in Paris on Saturday night in the second-fastest ever time by a South African, 19.82 seconds.

The 25-year-old overcame his disappointment of failing to qualify for the African Championships that were held in Mauritius this month by claiming the stunning win over Canadian favourite and Olympic champion Andre de Grasse in France.

Adams' run trailed only behind Clarence Munyai's 19.69-second South African 200m record time and beat Wayde van Niekerk's previous second-fastest 19.84.

It was also the fourth time a South African registered a sub-20-second 200m time, with Anaso Jobodwana's 19.87 making the elite collection.

The next leg of the Diamond League series will be held in Stockholm, Sweden on 30 June 2022.
