Springbok World Cup-winning lock RG Snyman's return to Ireland delayed due to surgery

Springbok lock RG Snyman will undergo surgery for a chest injury, his club Irish outfit Munster have confirmed.

Snyman sustained the injury in the Boks' World Cup final match against New Zealand. The 27-year-old spent two years on the sidelines with successive knee ligament injuries before returning in March to help the Limerick outfit to United Rugby Championship glory.

He then formed an integral part of the Boks' triumphant campaign in France as a crucial member of the Bok squad as Siya Kolisi's men made it back-to-back World Cup wins and a record fourth in total.

Tadhg Beirne, Dave Kilcoyne, Jeremy Loughman, Conor Murray and Peter O'Mahony have also rejoined their Munster team-mates at the HPC following their World Cup involvement with Ireland.

Jean Kleyn, Snyman's lock partner at club and international level, returned to Ireland with no issue. Snyman, though, had to stay behind in South Africa where he will undergo surgery.

"RG Snyman suffered a chest/shoulder injury during the World Cup final and will undergo surgery in South Africa this week," confirmed a statement on Munster's official website.
