Spotted: Journalist claims Leeds 25-year-old 'looks broken'

Leeds United’s quest to stay in the Premier League took a hit on Sunday afternoon as they fell to another defeat at the Emirates Stadium to top four chasing Arsenal.

Former Whites man Eddie Nketiah had himself a brace just 10 minutes into the game with the Leeds players losing their heads. In the second half Leeds were handed a lifeline as Diego Llorente managed to pull one back from a corner but Leeds couldn’t find an equaliser and the game finished 2-1.

Luke Ayling dived in on Gabriel Martinelli with both studs up. The referee initially booked him, but after referring to the monitor, brandished the red card. Raphinha was notably infuriated by the call as Chris Kavanagh was on his way to send Ayling off.

Raphinha was booked for his protests and prompted journalist Conor McGilligan to Tweet the following: “Raphinha looks broken, he really cares. Always puts in 100% for Leeds. What people don’t consider when you hammer him for his ‘declining performances’ is the utter dross he has around him. As many goals as Bowen this season, who is having a fine season for West Ham. #LUFC.”

It’s safe to say that Raphinha was incensed with the decision at the time and had it not been for the intervention of his teammates, probably would have seen red as well.

He has certainly been the leading man for Leeds this season, being the only player in double digits for goals, so it is no shock he may be getting frustrated with the situation. However, there were no excuses for the reaction today as the challenge from Ayling gave the referee no option but to send him off.
