Sportscene follows Match of the Day as BBC Scottish Cup coverage to be 'amended' amid Gary Lineker controversy

Sportscene will follow Match of the Day and implement an "amended format" amid the row involving presenter Gary Lineker.

The host stepped back from his role following a controversial tweet criticising the UK Government, but the move has seen commentators, pundits and presenters refuse to appear on the flagship broadcast on Saturday night. BBC Scotland have revealed that the team north of the border will follow suit with major changes to the typical Sportscene coverage of the Scottish Cup.

BBC's coverage of Hearts clash with Celtic was altered on Saturday with reaction being cut to instead play pre-recorded podcast material during their regular Sportsound radio coverage. The TV coverage of the clash at Tynecasle will follow suit with "limited sport programming" put in place. A BBC statement read: "The BBC will only be able to bring limited sport programming this weekend and our schedules will be updated to reflect that.

"Sportscene will run this evening on BBC One Scotland and BBC Scotland, with an amended format similar to current plans for Match of the Day. Some of the Sportsound slot on Radio Scotland was replaced by pre-recorded material.

"We are sorry for these changes which we recognise will be disappointing for BBC sport fans. We are working hard to resolve the situation and hope to do so soon."
