Sporting Lagos vow to recover dropped week 28 points at Heartland

NPFL action

Dissatisfied with the way they dropped two points in their Week 28 Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL) game against Lobi Stars on Wednesday, players of Sporting Lagos have vowed to recover the points when they meet Heartland of Owerri this weekend.

Sporting Lagos were held to a 1-1 draw at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, by Lobi Stars, who showed why they are among the contenders for the NPFL title in the midweek game.

Sporting Lagos got the lead through Junior Lokosa in the 31st minute of the first half they dominated and could have added more goals if their strikers were more clinical.

The second half saw a more purposeful Lobi Stars, who took the game to their hosts and were repaid with the equaliser in the 59th minute through Tiza lorwuese.

Speaking after the match, Sporting Lagos’ Coach, Peter Offor, blamed the draw on carelessness, saying his players lost concentration in a crucial moment of the game.

He said: “We conceded a goal we were not supposed to concede and when we fought back, we missed many chances.

“In this type of game, you get punished when you continue to miss chances. We just threw away two points because we had opportunities to go two goals up early in the second half, but we didn’t take them.

“It is painful and you can see how sad the players are feeling about this draw. We want to finish among the top clubs this season, which means we must beat Heartland in the next game.”

Also speaking on the match, Lobi Stars’ top scorer, Iorwuese, said, “It was a great game, but we would have achieved more if we had started the match well.

“We are working together as a team and looking forward to achieving more this season.”
