Speedster Shilton van Wyk scores hat-trick as SA Sevens blitz Canada in Hamilton
Van Wyk showed some nifty footwork and speed to open the Blitzbok scoring with less than two minutes gone from a scrum deep inside the Canadian half.
Canada struck back, however, when Phil Berna benefitted from a Matthew Oworu midfield break and offload to touch down.
But hot-stepping Selwyn Davids would not be outdone for midfield breaks and scythed through the middle of the Canadian defence, scoring under the posts with no red jersey able to get a finger on him.
Van Wyk poached his second try, pouncing from a handling error to dot down and give South Africa a 19-5 half-time lead.
The winger needed no time at all in the second half to complete his hat-trick when he picked up the restart and ran all the way from deep inside his half to score at the other end.
Substitute Christie Grobbelaar joined the try-scoring act, dotting down SA's fifth touchdown of the match as the Blitzboks completed the 34-5 rout after a sixth score late in the match.
