Soweto derby beckons: Motaung Jr knows 'results not illusions' will see Chiefs fans smile again

Kaizer Chiefs fans are no strangers to a good song and dance, but Sunday's chant went to a different tune.

The club's die-hard support base called for head coach Arthur Zwane to be sacked after their shocking 3-2 Dstv Premiership defeat to Golden Arrows at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday.

Zwane had to be escorted down the tunnel by police as a large part of the faithful chanted, "Athur must go!" after the match.

It marked Chiefs' eighth league defeat after 20 games this season, and they have won just one match since the PSL returned to action this year.

Zwane, a former star midfielder for Amakhosi in his playing days, is less than a year into a three-year deal he penned prior to the club undergoing drastic changes.

In May 2021 while Zwane was still an assistant coach to Stuart Baxter, the club appointed Molefi Ntseki as head of the Technical and Youth Development Academy.

The most significant change was naming Kaizer Motaung Jr as the club's sporting director and a year later, Chiefs ended Baxter's second coaching stint with the Glamour Boys and handed the Brit's office keys to Zwane. 

Amakhosi are now playing catch-up with the rest of the footballing world and are getting their ducks in a row, but results have remained the same.

However, Motaung Jr sees the blueprint working, even when Chiefs fans want immediate results as they yearn to end what could be an eight-year trophy drought come June.
