Southport attack: Family share update on teacher who shielded kids as she is readmitted to hospital

Yoga instructor Leanne Lucas, who shielded kids from a knife attack at a Taylor Swift dance class in Southport, has been readmitted to hospital, according to her loved ones.

The 35-year-old was seriously injured when an intruder launched a horrifying attack on the event at the community centre on Hart Street, fatally stabbing three young girls. Leanne was critically injured and taken to hospital following the attack on July 29.

Three young girls - Elsie Dot Stancombe, seven, Alice Dasilva Aguiar, nine, and Bebe King, six - were killed in the incident.

A close friend of the instructor posted a message on a GoFundMe page set up to aid Leanne's path to recovery. The message said: "Unfortunately this week Leanne was readmitted to hospital due struggling with her breathing. She is waiting for an operation for another drain on her lung due to infection."

It added: "Leanne had barely begun her road to recovery. Please keep her in your thoughts and continue supporting her as you have been by sharing the page and donating anything you can. Thank you all from the Lucas family and friends."

During the incident, Leanne courageously attempted to shield the children from the attacker, according to reports. She is said to have scheduled the two-hour dance and yoga class for the school holidays and was running it alongside Heidi Barlow. Heidi's injuries were thought to be less
