Southgate reveals ‘severe’ nature of Kalvin Phillips injury; Kane reacts to 50 for England
Gareth Southgate admitted Kalvin Phillips suffered a “severe dead leg”, while Harry Kane reacted to bringing up the half century for England.
England rescued a late 1-1 draw in Munich to give them their first point in the UEFA Nations League campaign. Germany dominated almost from first whistle with England struggling to get to grips with the press.
Jonas Hofmann put the hosts in front five minutes into the second half. Both Harry Maguire and Jordan Pickford will be disappointed with the parts they played in the opener.
Yet England battled hard to remain in the contest and with five minutes to go, were gifted the chance to level the scores from the spot.
Harry Kane did what he does best, finding the net with a slick penalty to score his 50th senior goal for England and rescue a point in Munich.

Speaking in his post-match press conference, Southgate said: “A top team doesn’t lose two games on the bounce and we challenged the players with that.”
England were dealt a blow inside 15 minutes when Kalvin Phillips could not continue after colliding with Nico Schlotterbeck.
Phillips attempted to soldier on but was in visible pain and unable to move freely.
It was the latest in a long line of injuries for the Leeds ace over the last 12 months and Southgate revealed the true nature of the latest setback.
“It’s not ideal in any way shape or form to lose a really important player after 15, 20 minutes,” added the England boss.
“Hopefully it’s not too bad. It’s quite a severe dead leg. Hard to know how long that will be.”
