Southampton: 34 y/o 'will be in the frame' to replace Hasenhuttl at St Mary's

Southampton will ‘certainly’ be taking a close look at Red Bull Salzburg manager Matthias Jaissle over the coming weeks, according to journalist Dean Jones.

Current boss Ralph Hasenhuttl is coming under scrutiny following a slow start to the season at St Mary’s and could be replaced sooner rather than later if results do not improve quickly.

A report from The Telegraph recently claimed that Hasenhuttl is close to being sacked by the Southampton hierarchy following a dismal run of results in the Premier League.

Since then, the Saints fell to a 4-0 loss against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium, consigning them to their fourth consecutive defeat in the top-flight to leave them lingering one point and one place above the relegation zone.

It’s stated that a change in the dugout has been on the cards for some time now despite Hasenhuttl pulling off several eye-catching results while working on a limited budget.

Southampton’s new owners Sport Republic are said to want a coach more adept at developing the promising young stars at the club after bringing in the likes of Romeo Lavia, Tino Livramento and Armel Bella-Kotchap.

The Daily Mail have disclosed that former RB Leipzig boss Domenico Tedesco and City’s assistant manager Enzo Maresca are possible candidates to succeed Hasenhuttl, but Jaissle is another option potentially on their radar.

Hasenhuttl made his name during a successful two-year stint at Leipzig, and Jaissle deploys many similar tactics to the current Southampton chief.
