South African rookie Aldrich Potgieter takes slender lead into final round in Mexico

Aldrich Potgieter will take a one-stroke lead into the final round of the Mexico Open after a third-round 67.

The 20-year-old South African, who opened the day with a four-shot lead as he chases his first PGA Tour win, holds the narrow advantage over American Brian Campbell at Vidanta Vallarta.

Germany's Stephen Jaeger is three strokes off the pace with American Alex Smalley a further two strokes back.

England’s Aaron Rai, the highest-ranked player in the field, shot a three-under-par 68 to be six strokes back in a tie for fifth with American Ben Griffin.

Potgieter held three-shot lead with two holes remaining but dropped a shot on the 17th after finding a bush off the tee and had to scramble a par on the 18th.

Playing partner Campbell finished with his seventh birdie of the day as he carded a bogey-free 64.

Padraig Harrington, the only Irish entrant in the field, missed the cut after a second round 75.
