French GP: Hamilton seeks a big result in milestone 300th race

The seven-times world champion was once dominant at Le Castellet's Circuit Paul Ricard but new rules have left his Mercedes team struggling with a bouncing car behind pace-setters Red Bull and Ferrari. It has now been 12 races since the Briton last won but he showed at Silverstone this month, when he finished third after leading, that the gap had narrowed. "I truly believe we can get a race win this year," said the 37-year-old after the latest race in Austria, where he also finished third.

Messi scores as PSG labour past Japan's Kawasaki

Lionel Messi scored but Paris Saint-Germain were made to work hard for a 2-1 win over Kawasaki Frontale on Wednesday in the first match of their pre-season Japanese tour. Star forwards Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe all started in new PSG manager Christophe Galtier's first game in charge of his full squad in front of a crowd of 65,000 at Tokyo's National Stadium. Messi opened the scoring with a 32nd-minute shot but a much-changed PSG line-up in the second half could manage only one more goal through substitute Arnaud Kalimuendo.

India should persist with Virat Kohli, he still has ability to make impact: Ricky Ponting

Ricky Ponting feels India should persist with Virat Kohli at the international level, adding that the star batter still has the ability to have a meaningful impact for the team. Kohli has not scored a century since November 2019, struggled for runs during this year's IPL and even failed to contribute much with the bat during the recently-concluded tour of England. There have been calls to drop him from Team India but Ponting, who captained Australia to two World Cup triumphs in 2003 and 2007, believes the 33-year-old still has that fear factor for the opposition captain or an opposition player. "I think if I was an opposition captain or an opposition player, I will be fearing playing an Indian team that has Virat Kohli in it, more than I would be one that doesn't have him in it," Ponting said in the latest episode of The ICC Review.
