Javelin thrower Annu Rani qualifies for second straight World Championships finals

Annu was on the verge of ending her campaign after starting with a foul throw and 55.35m in her second try but sent her spear to 40cm short of 60m in her third and final attempt on the fifth day of competitions here. She finished fifth in the Group B qualification round and made it to the finals as eighth best across the two groups. The 29-year-old national record holder must, however, be disappointed as she failed to touch the 60m mark but she now has the chance to make amends in the finals on Saturday (6:50am IST).

Stokes is once-in-a-generation player, England will miss him in ODIs: Buttler

Jos Buttler has described Ben Stokes as "once-in-a-generation player", while his predecessor Eoin Morgan hailed him as a "true leader" after the star allrounder retired from ODIs, leaving the cricket world shocked. The chief architect of England's historic 2019 World Cup triumph, Stokes ended his 105-match ODI career with a forgettable 5-run innings at his home ground here in Durham as England lost to South Africa by 62 runs to trail 0-1 in the three-match series. "People who play like Ben are once-in-a-generation players, so it's a good challenge for us (as an ODI side) to work out our best way forward as a team without him," Buttler said after the match.

With no reply received for its first letter, FIH asks Hockey India CoA to give definite timeline for new constitution ahead of 2023 World Cup

HI was put under a CoA by the Delhi High Court in May this year after finding the federations constitution and some of the appointments to be in violation of the National Sports Code. The court acted on a petition filed by former India player Aslam Sher Khan, who had challenged the then Indian Olympic Association (IOA) president Narinder Batra's appointment as life member of HI and Elena Norman as CEO.

Pakistan to play two tri-series at home in new FTP: PCB sources

A Pakistan Cricket Board source said on Wednesday that in the new FTP, which will be finalised at the ICC chief executive's meeting next week, Pakistan has included two home tri-series. "Pakistan has taken the stance that since it will not be playing India in any bilateral series in the new FTP cycle it wants to host more tri-series events at home to generate revenue," the source said.

Adopt constitution and hold elections at earliest to ensure staging of World Cup: FIH to CoA

The International Hockey Federation (FIH) shot off a letter to the Committee of Administrators (CoA), asking it to "expeditiously" draft the new Constitution and conduct elections and said any further delay would jeopardise the World Cup, scheduled to be held in Bhubaneswar and Rourkela from January 13 to 29 next year. "...in order to ensure that the 2013 FIH Hockey Men's World Cup can still be played in India as planned, we kindly ask you to provide us with a detailed timeline for the preparation and adoption of the Constitution as well as the holding of the elections to the Executive Board of Hockey India," FIH CEO Thierry Weil wrote in a letter to the Hockey India CoA, a copy of which is in possession of PTI.
