Pakistani Judoka Dies After Suffering Head Injuries

A young female judoka has died in Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province after suffering head injuries during a competition bout. Fiza Sher Ali, a talented 20-year old student couldn't recover from the head injuries she sustained while competing in the 44kg category fight during a Youth Talent Hunt program in Mardan. "She was a first year BS student in Peshawar and had come to Mardan for the trials and was new to the sport," an official of the Pakistan Judo Federation said.

Cummins' mother, Maria, died of cancer last year. "I knew when I was getting on that plane that I was going to have to come back in a couple of weeks pretty much," Cummins said in an interview for the Imperfects podcast. Cummins was in India for a Test series but he returned home to be by his ailing mother's side as she received palliative care.

A rather bizarre incident took place in the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2024 on Monday after UP Warriorz' Chamari Athapaththu was controversialy dismissed LBW. Facing a leg-spinner, Athapaththu was hit on the pads by Georgia Wareham of Royal Challengers Bangalore. While the on-field umpire gave the decision in the favour of the batting team, RCB captain Smriti Mandhana decided to go for a review. Surprisingly, the ball-tracking showed that the delivery from Wareham would've hit the stumps, suggesting it was a googly and not a leg-spinner.
