Flamingos to know India 2022 U-17 World Cup opponents today

Nigeria’s opponents at this year’s FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup finals will emerge today during the draw ceremony scheduled for the FIFA headquarters in Zurich, Switzerland.   The 16-nation championship will hold from October 11 to 30 in three Indian cities of Bhubaneswar, Goa and Navi Mumbai. Nigeria, Morocco and Tanzania will fly Africa’s flag, to contend for the trophy against hosts India, China, Japan, New Zealand, U.S., Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Germany, Spain and France.   India hosted the FIFA U-17 World Cup for the boys in 2018 and were slated to host the girls’ event two years ago, but the COVID-19 pandemic aborted that, necessitating a postponement and scaling down of the original host cities to three.   Nigeria will be in Pot 3, alongside France, U.S and China (meaning they will not be in the same group with any of those three). Hosts India, occupies top spot in Pot 1 alongside Japan, Spain and Germany, with Mexico, Canada, Brazil and New Zealand in Pot 2.

Omajuwa leads IGC Lady Section’s caretaker committee

Ibadan Golf Club (IGC) executive committee has appointed Oyinlola Omajuwa and three others as members of an interim caretaker committee for the Ladies Section.   According to a letter signed by the club’s secretary, Seyi Alaba, the action is in line with article 13:3:1-5 of the club’s constitution, saying it unanimously nominated Ms. Omolaraeni Olaosebikan, Mrs. Dorcas Oluwatunmise, Mrs. Lizzy Afonja, a former Lady Captain and Mrs. Oyinlola Omajuwa, as head of the committee.    Omajuwa, in her acceptance speech, pledged to restore the glory of the section by operating an open door policy and carrying along the ladies in the section’s deliberations and discussions.   “I’m overwhelmed with your support and confidence in me, and while thanking you for your support, I want to assure you that my team will ensure that all ladies will be carried along in all the section’s deliberations and discussions. I also assure you that all efforts shall be made to restore the past glory of this section, but please note that we cannot succeed without your full support,” Omajuwa noted.   Meanwhile, the club will this weekend host about 180 golfers in the Captain’s Inaugural Golf Tournament, which will be used to usher in the club’s new captain, Tunji Oladosu.
