Sources: Steve Bruce to give West Brom pursuit of Derby County ace the green-light
West Brom will make a play to sign Tom Lawrence in the summer after Steve Bruce’s appointment at The Hawthorns, sources have explained to Football League World.
Lawrence has been on the radar of a number of Championship clubs in the last few months, owing to Derby’s precarious off-field situation and the fact his contract at Pride Park is running down.
Bruce has just succeeded Valerien Ismael as West Brom’s manager, but the Baggies’ interest in swooping for Lawrence does not appear to have been impacted by that change.
Sources have revealed to Football League World that West Brom are ‘very likely’ to try and sign Lawrence in the summer, as his Derby deal heads for expiry.
The 28-year-old has been Wayne Rooney’s captain and talisman this season in the Championship, leading Derby back from the brink and into contention to survive, despite a 21-point deduction.
Lawrence has scored nine goals and registered a further five assists in 28 appearances.
West Brom drew 0-0 with Blackburn Rovers last night in the Championship, as Bruce picked up his first point since succeeding Ismael.
That stopped a three-game losing streak, but West Brom remain outside the play-off places heading into the midweek fixtures.
