Sources: No. 11 recruit Liam McNeeley decommits from Indiana - ESPN

Five-star recruit Liam McNeeley has requested a release from his letter of intent to Indiana and is decommitting from the Hoosiers, sources told ESPN.

McNeeley's decision comes one day after it was confirmed that head coach Mike Woodson will return for the 2024-25 season.

The 6-foot-8 small forward from Texas originally committed to the Hoosiers over Kansas in October, although he also considered the Longhorns until the final few weeks of his recruitment.

«Indiana has been recruiting me the longest, and they have been the most consistent,» McNeeley told ESPN at the time. «They have never wavered during the process. That has meant a lot to me.»

McNeeley, ranked No. 11 in the ESPN 100 for 2024, averaged 16.8 points and 5.1 rebounds in 17 games on the Nike EYBL circuit last spring and summer, shooting 37.5% from 3-point range. In 11 EYBL Scholastic games during the high school season, McNeeley averaged 12.7 points and shot 49.1% from behind the arc.

He was named to the Naismith Trophy Boys' High School All-America third team earlier this week and will play in the McDonald's All-American Game on April 2. Alongside top-ranked recruit Cooper Flagg and fellow five-stars Derik Queen and Asa Newell, McNeeley helped lead Montverde Academy (Florida) to a 30-0 record and No. 1 national ranking.

McNeeley's decommitment leaves Indiana with zero recruits in its 2024 class. The Hoosiers have two seniors on this year's roster, Xavier Johnson and Anthony Walker, but attrition could come by way of the NBA draft or transfer portal. Sophomore center Kel'el Ware is a projected first-round pick in June's draft.

247 Sports first reported the news of McNeeley's decommitment.
