Source: Spurs now keen on 6 ft 4 English defender with 'every attribute'; Levy needs to act fast

Tottenham have been credited with an interest in Blackburn Rovers defender Ashley Phillips, Football Insider report.

Phillips is just 16 years of age and has less than 18 months remaining on his Ewood Park contract.

Labelled as a player with ‘every attribute’ you would want in a young centre-back by Rovers manager Tony Mowbray, Phillips is an England Under-17 international who already stands at 6 foot 4.

He was recently included in a first-team match-day squad by Mowbray, and it appears as if Spurs are just one of a number of top-flight clubs interested in a potential transfer.

Football Insider, who were informed by a recruitment source, shared a story on Thursday evening regarding Phillips.

They claimed that Manchester United are leading the way in the race for the youngster, who is also a target for Spurs, Chelsea and Everton.

With Manchester United in pole position, Spurs chief Daniel Levy may need to act fast in order to win the race for Phillips’ services.

He appears to be a star of the future given how many top sides are already keen, so it could be a wise long-term move to pursue a deal for the defender over the coming months.
