Soccer Aid: Chelcee Grimes pays tribute to Hillsborough victims with ‘97’ shirt
Soccer Aid star Chelcee Grimes sported a shirt with the 97 on the back as a tribute to Hillsborough victims in last night’s charity match at the London Stadium.
The singer, songwriter and presenter was born in Liverpool and played for the Merseyside club’s junior age groups as a 10-year-old.
Grimes, who wore a similar shirt in 2021, came on as a first-half substitute for the World XI as Arsene Wenger’s side beat England 4-1 on penalties.
Aside from playing for Liverpool, Grimes also spent time with Everton, Tottenham Hotspur, Tranmere Rovers and Merseyrail Ladies FC.
But she has always remained in touch with her Merseyside roots and tweeted her support to the 97 fans who lost their lives in 1989 during last night’s half-time interval.
“For you Liverpool Football Club. We won’t forget,” she wrote.
For you @LFC ❤️
