'So unfair' - Man United hero Ander Herrera hints at retirement plan and names job he won't take

Former Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera says he has been turned off the idea of venturing into management in the future, though is not rejecting the idea entirely.

At 34 years of age, Herrera has started to think about the next stage of his career. To date, he has made 537 club appearances, the majority of which were for United between 2014 and 2019, where he won four trophies.

Following his days at Old Trafford he turned out for Paris Saint-Germain and has since landed back with boyhood club Athletic Bilbao in La Liga. His deal is set to expire this summer and so has been assessing his options.

"We think about it when you get older in football," Herrera told BBC Sport. "I am still 34 and still have energy to keep playing and I love football, but of course you start thinking about your next chapter.

"I will continue in football for sure, because it is my life, it is my passion, I love football, I love what I do. But you never know where."

Therefore at this stage it remains uncertain where Herrera will be plying his trade next season. One thing is for certain, as he confesses he will not be making the immediate leap into management once hanging up his boots.

He added: "If you see the coaches, the managers, it is so hard, sometimes it is so unfair, their job. You can be fantastic every week, working, they prepare everything, they spend the whole week preparing the game and after you hit the post and you don't score they are out.
