Snake Pass closed LIVE: Drivers urged to avoid area following 'serious collision'

A major road between Manchester and Sheffield has been closed in both directions following a 'serious crash'. Police have shut a 13-mile stretch of the A57 Snake Pass this afternoon (August 11).

Drivers are being urged to avoid the area 'until further notice'. The closure comes on one of the hottest days of the year, affecting traffic heading through the Peak District.

The road is closed between the Royal Oak Inn, in Glossop, and the Ladybower Reservoir, near Bamford. In a post on X, a Derbyshire Police spokesperson said: "The Snake Pass near Glossop is closed in both directions following a serious collision.

"Motorists should avoid the area until further notice." The crash was reported at around 1.30pm.

Further details about the nature of the collision are yet to be confirmed. Derbyshire Police has been approached for further details.
