SMU-FSU game starts with limited power after outage delay - ESPN

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Monday night's game between No. 19 SMU and Florida State kicked off at 9:15 ET after what was a nearly two-hour delay due to a power outage.

The contest is being played under unusual conditions, with power only back in a limited capacity at Doak Campbell Stadium. Not all the stadium lights were operating and the teams were forced to deal with a number of other issues, including no coach-to-player communication, no iPads on the sidelines, no public address announcer and no scoreboard.

There was no public game clock and on-field officials were keeping track of the time. Some replays were being shown on the Jumbotron.

Lights at the stadium went out at 7:30 p.m., shortly before the originally scheduled kickoff, due to a transformer going out on the west side of the stadium. ACC commissioner Jim Phillips chatted with athletic directors from both schools, SMU's Damon Evans and Florida State's Michael Alford, for a few minutes on the field before administrators moved inside to further discuss options.

It was announced at around 8:40 p.m. that the game would resume and that players would have a 10-minute warmup period before kickoff.

As the sun was setting, it was a surreal scene as players and coaches waited for the ACC opener to commence. Florida State (1-0) and SMU (0-0) had run out of their respective tunnels and onto their sidelines just moments before the game officially entered a delay. The Seminoles and Mustangs remained on their sidelines before eventually being sent back to their locker rooms.
