Slobodan Rubezic declares 'it is best this way' over Aberdeen loan exit as defender speaks out

Slobodan Rubezic has claimed 'It is best this way' on his shock decision to leave Aberdeen and return on loan to Novi Pazar.

The Montenegro international knows some people might see it as strange to see him return to Serbia, but for him it was the perfect solution. Aberdeen manager Jimmy Thelin had previously confirmed that Rubezic was returning home for personal reasons and to be closer to his family.

Rubezic refused to go into the reasons on his return but thanked everyone at his former club for making the deal happen. He said: “There are enough circumstances that I don’t want to talk about publicly. I am grateful to those people for coming to my aid and allowing me to return here, where I feel the best. Many people find my decision strange. Some interpret it this way, some that way.

“For me, the most important thing right now is to be here. I am close to my family, I am at home.

“I want to play and get the best possible result by the summer and I am not interested in the rest. I don’t want to waste time on why and how. It is best this way”.

The Serbian press claim that Novi have the option to buy Rubezic in the summer but that is not the case. The 24-year-old has struggled for form at Aberdeen in recent weeks. He asked to be substituted after being involved in mistakes after St Mirren went 2-0 ahead. Rubezic, though, has been dealing with things outside of football.

He moved to Aberdeen from Novi Pazar in 2023. He has now returned for a third spell with the Serbian side, having previously been there when on loan from Cukaricki. Rubezic is a popular figure at the City Stadium.
