Sky turns orange as fire breaks out on Rhondda valley mountain - live updates

This is the frightening scene tonight at the top of a mountain in the Rhondda valley.

Few details have been confirmed so far, but locals say the fire is based on the mountain near Dinam Park in Ton Pentre and photos from the scene show fire crews are in attendance.

In a brief statement on social media, Buffy Williams Rhondda MS appealed to locals to avoid the area, writing: "I can see that unfortunately there's a fire on the mountain behind Dinam Park in Ton. The emergency services will be working into the night to try to put out the blaze. I can't thank them enough. Please stay away from the area on foot."
