Sky Sports pundit shares prediction ahead of crucial Sheffield United vs West Brom clash

David Prutton believes that Steve Bruce’s West Brom career will start with defeat at Sheffield United.

The 61-year-old was named as Valerien Ismael’s successor this week and he has been tasked with guiding Albion back to the Premier League this season.

However, he has been given a very tough start, with the Baggies set to take on the Blades at Bramall Lane. The Yorkshire outfit have been outstanding in recent weeks and have put themselves in the play-off picture after a fine run of form under Paul Heckingbottom.

And, writing in his regular Sky Sports column, the Sky Sports pundit went for a home victory in the big game this evening.

“Three wins on the bounce now for Sheffield United. The managerial switch seems to be working right now and the play-offs are within sight.

“West Brom have also made a change. The fans had turned on Valerien Ismael, and when that happens you tend not to last too much longer. Steve Bruce is in, and he is a man who knows how to get out of this league. But with the Blades on such good form, I think he may well start with a defeat. 2-0.”

Sheffield United can go level on points with West Brom if they win, whilst they still have two games in hand on tonight’s opposition.

The verdict

The Blades are finally performing this season, with Heckingbottom having made a big difference since he was appointed, so it really is a tough start for Bruce at his former club.

So, you can understand why Prutton has gone for a home win and the hosts will start the game as slight favourites.

But, Bruce has inherited a squad with real quality and he will believe his team are capable of getting a victory at Bramall Lane that would be a significant one in the battle for promotion.
