Sky Sports man: Tottenham now in ‘advanced talks’ with ‘absolute machine’; Conte loves him

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Oliver Skipp is close to agreeing a new long-term deal with the Lilywhites, claims Sky Sports’ Lyall Thomas.

The 21-year-old enjoyed an impressive loan spell with Norwich City last season, where he played in 45 of their 46 Championship fixtures.

Since arriving back at Hotspur Way, the midfielder has risen to prominence in the Tottenham first-team. As a result, he has made 18 appearances in the Premier League this season. This total would have been even higher if it wasn’t for the injury to his pelvis, which has kept him out of action for three months.

According to Sky Sports editor Lyall Thomas, Skipp is close to reaching an agreement with the north London club over a new long-term deal.

Taking to Twitter, Thomas sadded that both parties are confident in the deal being done soon. He also claimed that Skipp is close to returning from his three-month injury spell.

“Oliver Skipp is close to agreeing a new long-term contract with Tottenham. Advanced talks, confidence on all sides it will get done soon. Also nearing return to action following three months out.”

This will come as great news to manager Antonio Conte, who previously claimed that he is “an important player for Tottenham Hotspur”.

This follows Jose Mourinho’s opinion of the youngster, who once claimed Skipp is “genuinely Tottenham’s future”, even tipping him to go on and captain the club.

Dubbed an “absolute machine” by Opta statistician Matt Hayes, the news of his return will come as a huge delight as Spurs push on for a top-four finish. More importantly, tying him down for the long-term should prove to be a fantastic move by the club.
