Sky's 'new and better' way to watch TV could spell the end of satellite dishes
Sky Glass has been one of the easiest and most affordable ways to access the TV provider's massive library of content, and there's a brand new version of it on the way. Announced today, Sky Glass Gen 2 will soon be available to purchase with the brand new TV boasting several improvements over its predecessor.
The biggest change to the TV comes in its display technology, which ditches the previous LED panel for a QLED version, with Quantum Dot technology enabling HDR playback. What this essentially translates to is much deeper blacks, higher contrast ratios, and a much better picture quality overall compared to the previous model.
Viewing angles should also now be much better than before, making it ideal for larger living spaces with several people sat watching the same screen from different parts of the room. Sky says that brighter 4K Quantum Dot display "delivers crystal clear picture, while new advanced HDR and precision contrast enhancement make darks darker and brights brighter".
Another bonus is "Auto modes" which ensure things are set perfectly for the type of content you are watching. The TV will switch the settings automatically when you settle down to watch a movie or fancy a night of Premier League action.
It's not just about the viewing experience on Gen 2. Tucked under the screen is a refreshed soundbar with 360-degree Dolby Atmos, which should offer far more immersive audio. There are seven speakers in total - including an up-firing boom box - with Sky promising richer bass and clear vocals. It's also compatible with Dolby Atmos content for even better sound.
Voice control is still included to provide easy access to content, recordings and controls. Playlists also get better with recordings stored in a more
