Skov Olsen thrust in for Rangers debut as Chukwuani gets first start and Tavernier returns – predicted XI
Danny Rohl faces a dilemma ahead of a game that could have a huge bearing on this season’s Scottish Premiership title battle.
The Light Blues are on a seven-game winning run in all competitions since their last defeat which came away to leaders Hearts just before Christmas.
Rohl has been backed in the transfer market since then with three new signings, two of which are available for the visit of Dundee to Ibrox and a game where Rangers can’t lose as the top two, Hearts and Celtic, meet at Tynecastle.
Tuur Rommens is unavailable through injury which means Jayden Meghoma will almost certainly continue at left back but Tochi Chukwuani could make his first start in the engine room after making his debut off the bench in the Scottish Cup win over Annan Athletic.
Rohl has to balance introducing the new recruits and breaking up a winning team and that means he faces a bit of a dilemma over Andreas Skov Olsen. The Denmark star is the marquee signing of the window but hasn’t featured in over two months when he came off the bench for all of three minutes in Wolfsburg’s 2-1 Bundesliga defeat to Werder Bremen.
But Skov Olsen is only at Ibrox, initially at least, for six months and has been signed to make a difference in this title race. So that could force Rohl to throw him straight in and get him used to the rigours of Scottish football, especially with a tough trip to Hibs to come in seven days.
With the 26-year-old on the right, it would allow Djeidi Gassama to switch to the left where he is more effective and Youssef Chermiti is likely to lead the line again ahead of Bojan Miovski.
Captain James Tavernier sat out the midweek win over Ludogorets which saw Rangers bow out of the Europa League but the skipper should be back
