Skate: EA shows off 'pre-pre-pre alpha' footage

EA has shown off new footage of the upcoming new entry in the Skate franchise, although they claim that the clips are taken from a “pre-pre-pre alpha” version of the game, as per Video Games Chronicle.

It shows a wire-frame version of the universe in which players will be hitting pop shove-its and grinds across the world.

The video also shows some traversal options that players have, including jumping between ledges in something of a parkour style.

There is a clear disclaimer that the game is currently at a very early stage, but the video does also seem to hint that you will have the option to play with a large number of friends.

You can currently sign up to be a play-tester for the upcoming Skate game, which appears to simply be titled ‘Skate’, but there have been issues with the website in which you can do this.

The game is actually the fourth entry in the franchise and there have previously been rumours that Skate 4 will have an online free skate mode which allows players to build skateparks together.

Giant Bomb reporter Jeff Grubb has been covering Skate 4 on Grubbsnax and he claims that EA are making a real attempt to modernise the series.

He said: “They are going to be taking some modern stuff, specifically the kind of stuff you might see in a Forza game or a lot of modern online multiplayer games, where you’re going to have a lot of customisation options for your character, a lot of skins, skins for your board, things like that.”

There isn’t currently a release date for Skate 4, but we’ll let you know as and when that is announced, and when any other clips surface from EA.
