Six uncapped players named in new-look Proteas squad for Tri-Nation ODI series in Pakistan

Proteas white-ball coach Rob Walter has named an initial 12-player squad for the upcoming Tri-Nation ODI series against hosts Pakistan and New Zealand.

The Proteas will be using the tri-series, which takes place from 8-14 February, as preparation for the ICC Champions Trophy to be held from 19 February to 9 March in Pakistan and Dubai.

South Africa's first match is on Monday against New Zealand at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore (06:30 SA time).

Captain Temba Bavuma will lead a new-look Proteas side which consists of six uncapped ODI players in Warriors batter Matthew Breetzke, North West University Dragons batter Meeka-eel Prince, and his domestic team-mate, fast bowler Gideon Peters, along with Dolphins fast bowler Eathan Bosch and Warriors spinner Senuran Muthusamy.

Western Province all-rounder Mihlali Mpongwana has also been named in the squad. This is the 24-year-old's second call-up to the 50-over setup after being part of the ODI squad against India in 2023

Breetzke and Muthusamy have made their international debut for the Proteas in the other formats.

Proteas fast bowler Gerald Coetzee will make his long-awaited national return after recovering from a left hamstring strain, which saw him miss majority of the Proteas' summer.
