Sittingbourne FA Trophy star Joe Boachie on his ‘Ronaldo-esque’ overhead kick in their third-round win over Enfield Town and life under Ryan Maxwell

Joe Boachie’s team-mates compared him to Cristiano Ronaldo after his stunning overhead kick in Sittingbourne’s FA Trophy win over Enfield Town.

It was Boachie’s second such goal in as many weeks, having scored in similar fashion in a league win against AFC Croydon the previous Saturday.

His latest effort, taking the ball at a considerable height, drew comparisons with superstar Ronaldo’s finest bicycle kicks.

The goal, Boachie’s second of the game, gave Sittingbourne a 3-2 lead and they went on to win 4-2, reaching the last 32 for the first time.

They’re also the lowest-ranked team left in the Trophy.

“All the boys are telling me it’s Ronaldo-esque,” said Boachie. “Apparently, I got up really high.

“You don’t realise in the game what’s going on.

“It was just above me and I thought I’d go for it. I need to watch it back and see how good it actually was.

“As it’s above me, I’m thinking ‘I’m in the box, let me go for it’. It’s another bicycle kick. I scored one last week so I was feeling confident.

“The only thing I was worried about was kicking someone in the head but if they’re brave enough to come and header it...

“It’s total euphoria when it goes in, especially against a National South side.”

Boachie has flourished under the management of Ryan Maxwell as Sittingbourne fight for the Isthmian South East title alongside their FA Trophy exploits.

The former Tonbridge and Folkestone man had been talking to other clubs before linking up with the Brickies in pre-season.

“Maxy has just filled me with confidence,” said Boachie. “I had a tough season last year and he brought me in, put an arm round me and he’s got me enjoying football again.
