Sittingbourne boss Reece Prestedge reacts to their 1-0 home Isthmian South East derby success over managerless Herne Bay
Boss Reece Prestedge had bad news for Sittingbourne defender Jack Steventon after their derby win over Herne Bay on Saturday - I’m not giving the goal to you!
Steventon was credited with the only goal of the Isthmian South East derby as he found space at the far post to connect with a corner to break the deadlock midway through the second period at Woodstock in their 1-0 victory.
But Prestedge felt Mitchell May had got the final touch to send the ball beyond goalkeeper Archie Burford as he praised the striker, who rejoined the Brickies from Isthmian Premier Ramsgate earlier this month.
He said: “I think it’s Mitch May’s goal, to be honest.
“He probably deserves a goal, Mitch May, because he was very good today. He has been excellent since he has come in.
“So, I’d give it to Mitch May.”
The Brickies’ second-half effort settled what was a largely scrappy encounter.

“It was a bit of a bitty affair,” admitted Prestedge, whose team had seen off Erith Town 3-0 through two-goal Derek Asamoah and defender Ben Swift last midweek. “It was very back and forth.
“We had a little bit of control but we then had periods where we were wasteful. We didn’t really get going as we did on Tuesday but, sometimes, games go that way.
“I think we probably needed to be a bit more patient, not get frustrated with ourselves - which I think we did - and the game was probably a bit like that for 90 minutes. A bit of a bitty affair between the two teams.
“We created quite a bit, we had a few chances and stuff like that, but we could have been 1-0 down at half-time.
