Sir Kenny Dalglish sends Nottingham Forest poignant message ahead of FA Cup clash

The former Liverpool player and manager posted a message to the club on Twitter.

Forest had announced a gesture of good faith towards Liverpool to honour the 97 fans who died as a result of the Hillsborough disaster of 1989.

Forest were Liverpool’s opponents on that fateful day.

The club have confirmed that they will leave 97 seats vacant as a way to remember the incident.

Dalglish, who was Liverpool manager that day, has thanked Forest for the gesture.

“Thank you. From my perspective, your club was hugely respectful on the day, and that will never be forgotten,” wrote Dalglish on Twitter.

This will be the first meeting between the two sides in 23 years as they both look to book a trip to Wembley for the FA Cup semi finals.

This is the first time Liverpool have reached this stage of the competition under Jurgen Klopp.

Meanwhile, Forest have not played a quarter final since 1996.

Steve Cooper’s side have been on an incredible journey to reach this stage of the tournament.

Victories over Arsenal and Leicester City have been highlights of this year’s edition of the famous cup competition.

Another Premier League scalp this evening would put Forest into the semi finals for their first visit of the new Wembley Stadium since its opening in 2007.

The draw for the semi finals will take place before kick-off at 6pm.

This match is going to be a huge occasion for the home side so it is very commendable that they are using this moment to commemorate those who died.

Dalglish has played a very personal role in the aftermath of that day as he has fought for justice for those who died.

Historically, this was once an intense rivalry in English football so it is especially nice to see both sides coming together for this moment.
