Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has confirmed that he and his players will conduct a lap of appreciation following tonight's clash with Newcastle United at Old Trafford.

The Magpies' visit to M16 will mark United's 25th and final home game of the campaign in all competitions. It is standard practice for the players and staff to walk the perimeter of the pitch after the final home game to applaud and acknowledge the fans for a season's worth of support.

The dominant topic ahead of tonight's game is the possibility that it could mark Ten Hag's final home game in charge. United will conclude their Premier League campaign away at Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday before facing Manchester City in the FA Cup final at Wembley six days later.

Amid the underwhelming nature of United's season, Ten Hag faces an uncertain future at Old Trafford ahead of the final week of the campaign. However, Ineos are yet to provide any sort of clarity on the Dutchman's position.

Asked if United's lap of honour will be a "goodbye to Old Trafford", Ten Hag, speaking at Tuesday's pre-match press conference, said: "Goodbye for me? It's not how I feel it and how I see it. It is not the way I go to start that lap of honour for the fans, no. The answer to the questions you made so often: same answer.

"Through good times and bad times we are together and the fans show it, that we are together. So we will do a lap of honour."
