Sir Alex Ferguson's magnificent record of league finishes throughout his 27 year reign at Man Utd

Sir Alex Ferguson is widely regarded to be the greatest manager in British history.

The no-nonsense Scotsman spent 27 years at Man Utd and in that time successfully ‘knocked Liverpool off their perch’ as he so often loved to say.

His first few seasons in charge of the club were difficult to say the least, and as a matter of fact he nearly got the sack once or twice, but after coming out the other end he would lead United to unimaginable amounts of glory.

Thirteen Premier League titles, two UEFA Champions League trophies, five FA Cups and two League Cups mark success of the kind we are never likely to see again.

And it’s no surprise he won the FIFA World Coach of the Year award twice, in fact, it’s more of a surprise he didn’t win it more frequently.

So, as mentioned, it wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows for Ferguson at Old Trafford and it was only since the inception of the Premier League in 1992 that he experienced any real joy on the league front.

In his six years at the helm before he reached English football’s pinnacle, he found himself the runner-up on two occasions and even came outside the top 10 twice.

However, once the floodgates opened their was no stopping the rampant United squad of the early Premier League era.

In the 20 years that proceeded his inaugural title win, Ferguson never finished below third in a league season ever again – and it was a rarity that he ever dropped out of the top two.

Check out this incredible graphic which details just how stunningly successful United were under his tenure.
