Sinclair starts 10th season in NWLS with volley goal to lead Portland past Kansas City
Portland Thorns forward Christine Sinclair started her 10th season in the National Women's Soccer League with a goal in a 3-0 victory over the visiting Kansas City Current on Saturday.
The 38-year-old from Burnaby, B.C., hit a volley with her left foot into the top corner in the 34th minute after a cross by Natalia Kuikka.
Sinclair's goal came after Morgan Weaver opened the scoring in the eighth minute for Portland.
Sophia Smith added to the home team's lead in the 51st minute, scoring from the right side of the box after Meghan Klingenberg intercepted a pass to set her up.

The Thorns put on a dominant performance, outshooting the Current 19-5, with a 12-1 edge in shots on target.
Newmarket, Ont. native Victoria Pickett played 25 minutes for the Current. Her teammate Desiree Scott of Winnipeg played 45 minutes.
Portland will next face the North Carolina Courage on May 7. The Current will play the Houston Dash on May 8.
