Sinclair Armstrong and Jonathan Afolabi called into Ireland squad to face Netherlands

Forwards Sinclair Armstrong and Jonathan Afolabi have been called up to the Republic of Ireland squad to face the Netherlands on Sunday at the Aviva Stadium.

Ireland manager Stephen Kenny has moved to replace Brighton and Hove Albion striker Evan Ferguson, who pulled out of the squad earlier in the week due to injury, and Preston North End striker Will Keane, who suffered an injury in Thursday's defeat to France.

Armstrong, who has scored one goal in five league appearances for QPR this season, has been promoted from the Ireland U-21 squad ahead of their games against Turkey and San Marino.

Afolabi has been in impressive form for Bohemians this season, scoring 11 goals in 27 matches, and links up with the squad ahead of Sunday's must-win Euro 2024 qualifier against the Netherlands.

Ireland go into the clash with the Dutch with their qualification hopes hanging by a thread after last night's 2-0 loss in Paris left them with just three points from their first four games.

A win against the Dutch would see Ireland draw level on six points with theirs guests and Greece, albeit Netherlands would have a game in hand. Group favourites France are all but qualified with five wins from five and no goals conceded.

Both Armstrong and Afolabi reported to the senior camp today and trained with the group at FAI HQ, Abbotstown.
